Why I Am Different, By Grace Beardsley, 4th Grade

Everyone is different or unique in a way.  My difference is that I’m short and nothing can change that.  There are some times in my life when I just want to be tall, and there are other times I am happy the way I am.  I always remember that G-d made me this way and I should accept the way I am.

One time I was in New York City and I was going to my Dad’s office.  When I went in the elevator, one guy asked, “Are you taking the day off from preschool?”  After that I felt very embarrassed and I just wanted to be tall.  I definitely didn’t want to be called a preschooler when I was nine.

Being short like me has its challenges but it also has its advantages.  For example, I love to do theater and being short is good for that.  I can get cast in many shows as a six or seven year old.  That is better than casting an actual six or seven-year-old, because I am more mature than a younger kid.

Since I am short I have learned that everyone is different in some way.  You should accept the way you are because you are who you are and nobody can change that.
