My 5 moms and dads By Jade Bristol (Age 9)

Hi. My name is Jade. I’m nine years old. I’m going to share how I have five moms and 5 dads! You might think it’s impossible but nothing is impossible and it’s true. When I was born I had two holes in my heart and a breathing problem because I was born a month early. The first hole was called Atrial Septal Defect and the second was a Ventricular Septal Defect. I also had Bilateral Choanal Atresia. I was really sick! Like really SICK. Being so sick is why I have 5 moms and 5 dads. Having that many moms and dads makes me pretty unique.

When I was born I had my first mom and dad. I don’t know their names but I know they loved me because they tried to take care of me for a whole month. Because I was getting sicker they decided to give me a better chance to live by letting me live with another family. The police brought me to an orphanage. That is where I met my four other moms and dads. My mom’s names are Miss Tammy, Miss Joy, Miss Janice and Miss Karen. The dads names are Mr. Jim, Mr. Glenn, Mr. Brad and Mr. Bill. They all worked like a team to help me grow and be healthy. Karen and Bill became my forever mom and dad. They are so kind and caring. Karen was the one who helped to take me to many hospitals. She helped me like you don’t even know how much. She will always be the greatest thing that I care about because she saved me. The fact that I get to do stuff and eat and play now is because of everyone taking such good care of me. I get to grow and learn and play sports every day because I’m healthy now. All of my moms and dads gave me the chance to grow strong.

I flaunt it by kind of being a miracle because I had two holes that closed on their own as my two moms and dads took care of me. They both healed on their own before I turned two years old. I flaunt it because my breathing problem usually means I would need surgery right away to live. It is a miracle that I lived without it until I came to live with my forever family and had surgery to fix it when I was two years old. Now I can breathe through my nose when I couldn’t before. I can breathe good enough to run and be a good soccer player. I started soccer right after everything was back to normal which means I was at the age of three, which is pretty young. I flaunt it because I eat healthy foods and get lots of good sleep.

Not everyone has 5 moms and 5 dads, which means so many love and care for me. I flaunt it by trying to care about others and being thankful too. I’m sooooo thankful that I get to be here, have friends and most importantly have a family.
